There are now many Americans who have broken their addiction and have electrified their loads, from their cars to their stoves. They have put up solar electric on their home, or they use community solar, or specify green energy from their utility. These folks are now living in a post-carbon world for their personal, controllable consumption. And don’t let the doomers and gloomers tell you that your personal, controllable consumption doesn’t matter – we personally control about 50% of our total contribution to greenhouse gasses. The other 50% we have less control over, such as the greenhouse gasses produced from the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the airline flights we take, etc. 

How did this happen? Well, back in the day, fossil fuels were cheap, and vastly increased our standards of living. A few folks, like Arrhenius in 1896, did the math and said: danger ahead! But until about the year 2000, we didn’t have viable and economically sustainable alternatives. With the recent advances in solar, now we do.

It is not fair to beat ourselves up for falling for this scam – it is ubiquitous, and most folks don’t see it, just as we presume fish don’t feel wet. Now that we have better choices, it is time to take action and get moving on electrification by adding solar to our homes!
